Beautiful garden in central Tokyo [ Hamarikyu garden ]

One of the most wonderful garden in central Tokyo is Hama Rikyu Garden.

Surrounded by Tokyo bay & high-rise building, you can enjoy beautiful flowers, colored leaves, traditional pond&little house, also even cruising from this garden.

This garden used to be Tokugawa shogunate’s private garden in 1600s.
Now owned by Tokyo city, all trees and flowers of this garden are really well condition everywhere.
I always feel gardener’s love who keeps this garden beautiful.

Location & General information

It’s located in near Ginza area (about 15min walk from Ginza). 10min by car from Tokyo station.
Also might be good after Tsukiji outer fish market. (about 15min walk from Tsukiji area)

Opening hours : 9:00 to 17:00 (entry until 16:30)

Admission is 300yen

Seasonal plants & Japanese style garden

First of all you can see 300years old Japanese pine tree at near entrance.

Yellow canola flower in March, Cherry blossoms in April, fresh greens in early summer, yellow&orange colored leaves in Autumn – this garden is really well designed to enjoy each season.

Then there is Japanese traditional small house and pond.
I was surprised that there is such a peaceful place in the middle of big city when I found here for the first time.

Lawn area for picnic

There are two lawn area which picnic is allowed only this spots.
1 : Uchibori square
2 : Open square.

*Better to bring foods and drink before enter the garden. (can’t expect to buy lunch or drinks inside the garden)

*Playing with ball or badminton, drinking alcohol is not allowed.

*The closest restaurant is about 5min walk from Main-gate (Otemon-gate).
This restaurant is the closest —> LOTO BLU

No shops, restaurants inside

No Restaurants and food shops… only one or two tiny kiosk for almost nothing. Bring drinks and snacks at least for kids.

Toilet

There are 4 family toilet for diaper change.

Route for Stroller / Wheel chair

There are suggested route for Wheel chair & Baby stroller.

There is water-bus boat dock inside this garden. (not so well known)
But it’s currently suspended for a while …

For boat cruise, You can ride from Asakusa or Odaiba.
Baby stroller was welcome.
